National Dog Day

Today, August 26, 2022, is National Dog Day. What do dogs have to do with business? Nothing and everything. Dogs offer us unconditional love, which is an amazing gift especially when stressed. Two of our four dogs come to our office with me daily. They are even on my BatCat Media Group website as part of the team.

Owning a dog isn’t a requirement in business but in my mind it enhances my business. It lightens me up when I’m frustrated; it brings me back to the present moment when I see their smiling faces instead of thinking about the past or worrying about the future. I don’t see myself ever living without a dog.

National Dog Day was created in 2004 by Colleen Paige “so that all dogs can be celebrated and also to draw attention to the number of dogs in shelters and to encourage adoption to those who have yet to find a place to call home” (NationalToday.com). Many restaurants and stores around the country have Yappy Hour or special deals to celebrate today.

If you have a fur child, give them an extra hug! Be grateful. Show them some extra love. Dogs are there when we need them most, at some of the most difficult times in our lives. While they don’t stay with us nearly long enough (in my opinion), each and every one makes a huge impact on our family, our work and our capacity to love and feel gratitude.

Today, take your dog to work! If your office doesn’t allow it, do something else special for your pup. If you have been thinking about adopting one, go to your local shelter and take a look. Maybe today is THE day that you become a dog owner. You both will be eternally grateful!
