Whether you are in 2008 or 2020, we are in uncertain times where we need to come together as a community with understanding and compassion. Many have been laid off from their jobs as the pandemic crisis heightens across the world. Some may have a job once all is said and done while others may not. As a business owner, I am clear that my business will shift with the changing times. What will you do? Some are considering starting a business because who knows if your job will be there after we get past all of this.

I Got Laid Off, Now What?

Are you one of the many thousands in the work force who have been laid off? First and foremost, please take a deep breath. Most important is your health and wellbeing while so many are affected by COVID-19. There are important things that you can do to keep yourself healthy.

  • Limit your stress:
    1. This may be easier said than done for some of us but each of us has to be deliberate about it.
      1. Take deep breaths
      2. Go for walks outside (but away from people)
  • Talk with friends on the phone
  1. Do activities that make you happy and healthy
  • Eat healthy:
    1. Keeping our immune system up is extremely important.
      1. Supplements are essential
      2. Healthy eating with lots of fresh fruit and veggies
  • Create a daily ritual for you:
    1. This is done to stay positive
    2. Keep life and work goals in mind and continue to live in the higher vibrations
    3. Remember that those living in lower vibrations are more susceptible to disease and illness

I Want a Job

If you feel you are someone who needs the J-O-B, I totally understand. There is something I can appreciate about getting a regular paycheck every two weeks. There are several companies that I have heard who are hiring including Publix, Amazon and Gordon Food Services just to name a few.

For those of you who aren’t interested in this but instead want to venture into the world of entrepreneurship, let’s take a moment to think things through.

What is Your Vision?

One of the best things I can share with a new entrepreneur is love what you do. This is the thing that you plan to earn money for and will need to go through ups and downs in getting any business off the ground.

What is your vision? A vision statement is your statement of your business in the future. What does it look like? Once you have that we can start talking about the next steps in creating your business.

Planning and Launching a Business

Depending on the type of business you plan to launch, you can create and launch a business in a matter of days or weeks if you know the right steps to take. First and foremost, determine if there is a need for your business during this time. For example, if you want to teach cooking classes to people at a live venue then now may not be the best time to create this dream BUT if you want to teach cooking classes virtually, you may have some great opportunities. Who doesn’t need to know how to eat healthy during this trying time.

  • Do you need to incorporate the business?
  • Do you need insurance for the business?
  • Will you need a website?
  • Do you have clarity on what you will offer?
  • How will you market the business?

These questions are just the beginning of creating a business; there are a lot of questions but with every question, you can research and determine an answer. As an entrepreneur, you have to be adaptable, flexible and be able to pivot when one door closes and another one opens.

I Think that I am Going to Start a Business!

Congratulations on taking the next step. Review the questions and be clear that this is the best step for you. Not everyone is good as a business owner BUT everyone can be a business owner if he or she wants to do it. One of the most important aspects is that you stay positive and open to change. In the early days of any business, much is changing and you as a person are growing. What I would do now in my business, I would never have done when I started my business. Create the best business for you!
